Break the ice
Do you know a situation when you meet a new person and have to start a conversation but have no idea what to talk about? Or, on a social occasion, you would like to get closer to a specific person and have a conversation?
This is where the English idiom “break the ice” comes in handy. As in “I’d like to get to know this person, but I have no idea how to break the ice” or “No worries, Joe, just try to break the ice and it will be all right.”
